Glycerol is a colorless, viscous, hygroscopic, sweet-tasting trihydric alcohol. It is also called glycerin or glycerine, with the
term glycerol being preferred as the pure chemical form and the term glycerin(e) being primarily used when the compound is used commercially in various grades.

It is most commonly utilized in formulation of suppositories, cough syrups, elixirs, and expectorants.

4. For Tobacco
Glycerin is applied to cigarette tobacco to improve moisture holding characteristics of tobacco and act as a surface 
active agent for flavor application.

5. For production of chemicals.
It is used in the production of explosives, polyurethane foams, and antifreeze. It is also used as a solvent in the extraction of plant oils and as a preservative in the manufacturing of soap.Additionally, it is used in the production of biodiesel. It is a byproduct of the biodiesel production process and is used as a fuel additive. This is also used in the production of other biofuels such as bioethanol.
